Johannes Brahms first recognized Antonín Dvořák’s extraordinary talent while serving on the jury of a composition competition. His support not only secured Dvořák the prize but also led to the publication of his music. This concert presents two monumental masterpieces by these composers at the very height of their careers: Dvořák’s Cello Concerto and Brahms’s Symphony No. 4.
In Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, the cello emerges from within the orchestral fabric, weaving in intimate dialogue with the ensemble while preserving a deeply personal voice of reflection and longing. Brahms’s Fourth Symphony begins with a gesture of almost fragile resignation, unfolding with relentless momentum, yet repeatedly turning inward and looking back, culminating in a powerful statement of profound, near-tragic intensity.
Internationally renowned cellist Jian Wang joins Music Director Nai-Yuan Hu and the TC Chamber Orchestra for this concert, together with nine principal players from leading orchestras across Europe and North America.
